Abortion Pill Reversal
What if I change my mind? Is this reversible?
Although there is no guarantees of success, there is an option for consideration under certain conditions should you want to reverse the decision for an abortion after taking the abortion pill.
There is a pill called the Abortion Pill Reversal (APR). What it does, essentially, is counteract the first pill (mifepristone) of RU-486. It can only be used if the first pill was taken. If the 2nd pill has been ingested, APR will not be effective.
Initial studies of APR have shown that APR has a 64-68% success rate. Without the APR treatment, mifepristone may fail to abort the pregnancy on its own. In other words, your pregnancy may continue even without APR if you decide not to take misoprostol (the second abortion drug likely prescribed or provided to you when you took mifepristone). APR has been shown to increase the chances of allowing the pregnancy to continue.
Since mifepristone blocks progesterone, APR gives a major dosage of progesterone. The idea is that a major dosage of progesterone will make up for the progesterone being blocked by the mifepristone. It needs to be taken up to 72 hours after taking mifepristone. The earlier it is taken, the better.
We provide this treatment at no cost to you. So, yes, it is possible to change the course of your decision to abort, but there are no guarantees. So take the time to think through your decision to abort, making sure it is one you can live with for the rest of your life.
